This Sunday one of the most wonderful people in my life is coming to town. Amy (besides having my same first name) is one of my very own writing group members. This is a hugely lucky thing on my part. Hands down, Amy is the most generous person I have met in a very long time. Her heart is as big as Everest is tall. The women who are attending this Sunday’s salon will be so lucky to have been touched by Amy. It’s not a promise, it’s a fact. Magic follows Amy like dirt follows Pig Pen from the Peanuts comics. I love Amy and all that she brings to this earth. Here’s a list of all she does and what I suspect will be just a smidgeon of what will come up in our conversation on Sunday.
*PEN in the Classroom--working with at-risk teens (Compton/LA) on creative writing
*Essay writing on Divorce for Huffington Post
*Author of several memoirs, which imbue life in its most delicate, but beautiful place
*Teacher at so many venues I can’t even name them all here, but her students write lengthy blog posts about how much they love her. One student wrote about how she said she would look at anything and everything they wanted turn in (GENEROUS!)
*Stepmom extraordinaire. I’ll let her expand on this, but it’s beyond the Brady Bunch on how much she loves the girls she took in to her arms.
*Her funny husband. She should get credit for finding a magnificent husband who adores her. And he’s a sweetheart.
*She loves animals! Strays and abandons alike. That’s my kind of pet owner!
*I will stop or this will be too long of a blog. But I will gush at the salon.
Okay, it sounds a little like I’m head over heals in love with Amy, but the fact is, she really is just this generous.
